foundations

Fern Campervans was born from exploration. While road-tripping for months on end, and on quick weekend micro-adventures, we have designed and loved our own vans, distilling the best features to make adventure part of our everyday.

In New Zealand, where Fern began, van life is woven into the culture. There’s a natural Kiwi tendency toward self-sufficiency, curiosity, and getting out into the landscape without fuss. That mindset guided our early designs. We wanted vans that seamlessly blended practicality with adventure, yet still offered the comfort and considered detail that make a compact space feel welcoming. Whether you’re away for a single night or heading off for months, the aim is the same - a campervan that genuinely feels like home.

Setting up Fern Campervans in Somerset gave us an ideal UK home for the brand. With Exmoor, Dartmoor, Wales, and miles of coastline on our doorstep, it’s a place where the idea of a spontaneous escape is very much part of everyday life. From this base, we’ve focused on creating vans for people who want more room for adventure - those who see outdoor living not as a trend but as a way to unwind, reconnect, and explore at their own pace.

Today, Fern Campervans is guided by the same principles that started it all: thoughtful design, a love of the outdoors, and an understanding of what makes time on the road truly enjoyable. Our goal is simple - to build campervans that bring warmth, shelter, and independence to would-be adventurers.

WILLIAM

THOMAS

  • Chief Creative Officer

William founded Fern Campervans while exploring and living in the wilds of New Zealand with his wife Tilly, and Bertie the Fox Terrier. Adventures over the years have taken many forms; mountain biking through the Himalayas, hiking in the bush of NZ or canoeing on a myriad of Scottish rivers.

His background as a Design Engineer, honed at Dyson, means every challenge is targeted from the user’s perspective, and combined with technical know-how to ensure the end result is robust and intuitive.

  • Chief Operating Officer

Tom is a Chartered Accountant who left his job as Head of -Finance for a multi-national engineering company to co-found Fern Campervans. He makes sure the finance and operational side of the business runs smoothly, allowing us to spend more time designing the perfect campervan for your adventures.

When Tom isn’t immersed in spreadsheets he spends as much of his time outside as he can. Riding his horse, walking on the Mendips and travelling the world.

  • Director of Communications

Tilly’s background in project management, and extensive experience of ‘van life’ in both the UK and New Zealand, lends her a unique skillset that keeps everything (and everyone!) on track.

When she gets time away from managing Fern’s socials, Tilly loves exploring remote mountain ranges with her husband, Will, and faithful terrier, Bertie.

  • Director of Assets

Lucy is a Chartered Surveyor and Registered Valuer. She brings a wealth of real estate knowledge to our growing business, keeping her ear to the ground for our next ‘goldilocks’ premises.

When not hobby-browsing Rightmove, you’ll probably find her on her horse at the beach, galloping into the sunset and dreaming of her next equine adventure abroad.
